I recently reformatted my drive and re-installed XP Pro. I applied all of the available fixes, then installed Office 2000 and its fixes. Everything seemed to be stable untill I ran publisher, which installed some "additional components. "
Now, everytime the machine is rebooted, at the end of the shutdown cycle, I get a stop error 0000007E referencing KBDCLASS.SYS F88DE941 base at F88DE000, DATESTAMP 3d6ddad3.
I'm also running PCCillin2002 and ZoneAlarmPro, as well as GoBack3 (the goback history was not sufficient to go early enough)

Any ideas short of reformatting and reloading?
Thanks in advance and enjoy the weekend!:D

Try uninstalling Publisher and see if that solves the problem - then re-install it and see if the problem returns.

    Then post back!

No change. I just noticed on the stop screen at top the following...
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have already tried deleting the keyboard and having windows reinstall it when it rebooted. No improvement

I'm wondering if this is the source of the problem - may be incompatible with XP. Any chance of temporarily substituting a more up to date keyboard?

One other thing you can do before I suggest a Repair of XP is to see what Error Messages are logged in Event Viewer.

Note the time - Shut down the PC and reboot

Right Click on My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > System and Application.

Look for Error messages at the time you shut down the PC. Double click on the message to expand. Post any of relevance - click on button below the up/down arrows to paste to Clipboard.

I would imagine kbdclass.sys will star, but there may be something else.

BTW - no guarantee that I can interpret all these error messages :)

Any other 'vintage' kit on your m/c??

First Pete, let me thank you for your interest and time. I appreciate it.
Since Part of the error is "Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ", I examined

device manager for resource conflicts and found none.
The IBM keyboard has worked with XP on this hardware for about a year. I do

    have a Logitech USB Webcam.

The first curiosity appears prior to completion of the shutdown.

A similar entry for Zone Alarm and entry for event log stopped.

The next entry follows hitting the reset button to clear the blue Stop

WHAT IS lsermous ??????????????? (Legacy serial mouse ???-don't have one)

Then Event Log Service Starts, followed by another lsermous.

    After that, everything normal.

I'm more than pleased to help - but my experience in this area is rather thin :)

Nevertheless we will plod on -

"Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" is fairly generic, but clearly refers to a driver problem.

"The attempt to reboot MURRAYWE failed" - I guess because you have 'Automalically restart on system Failure' unchecked, so that is OK

Isermous - well if you can read Italian I found a Win XP forum in Italy - the answer may lie here

    http://www.pc-facile.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8245&view=previous

This was the only hit on Google for isermous.

As far as I can gather something to do with USB - and mice

"The hardware resources for are already in use by another device. "

    Could be a mouse problem.

Two suggestions - uninstall the mouse in Device Manager and let Windows find it on reboot.

Incidentally look for ALL mice and remove them all. I had a mouse problem on a PC I was doctoring for a friend and his device manager showed 5 mice :D

If possible beg, borrow or steal another mouse and try that.

If this fails to fix the problem :

    1. Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow You may need your installation CD and to reinstall SP 1

    2. Repair Windows - if you don't know how see http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

    3 Re-install Windows

Please post back with progress/results - I hate unfinished business/unsolved problems, but that's about as far as I can go at the moment.

Deleting the mouse and the keyboard achieved nothing. Looks like I'm headed for another re-install. When activation day arrives, guess I'll dive in and hope I don't wind up in the same spot
    Thanks again for your help.

Did you run sfc /scannow ?

Try a Repair of Windows before a re-install.

Nothing worked. A fresh install went down amid the virus/worm frenzy, but all seems OK for now..
    Thanks again:D
