This is probably an old subject, but I am curious what is going to happen to Netscape as AOL has finalized an agreement with Microsoft. Will it survive?

There was a discussion here a few days ago following AOL's firing of the Netscape development (Gecko) team:

Consensus is that Netscape is dead as far as the AOL brand-name browser goes but that support for current Netscape users will continue from various sources. Mozilla (the "real" Netscape!) will live on. Here's an article with more insight and links to the old news:

    Netscape to Mozilla

As Netscape 7.1 is said to probably be the last of the series is it possible to change to Mozilla 1.4. Can I transfer everything I have under Netscape 7.1 to Mozilla?

Netscape7.1 will be around, and there is no reason to switch other than it is a resources hog for Win98 users. In such case Mozilla1.4 was the beginning of the entire problem.
In fact, I took a step back to Moz1.3.1.
But, no matter what. Create a new profile for Mozilla, and everything will work the same way, after you put your stuff from Netscape.
One exception. Some people have been able to set up Netscape Webmail in Netscape Mail. It won't work in Mozilla.
    And, Mozilla will continue developing!
