I currently have IE5.5 having done an unsuccessful repair of IE 6 and reverted to previous version of IE. This happened some time ago and is not a critical, but a puzzleing situation.
Under normal usage of OE , OE 6 is the version that is in play and everything appears normal, i.e. the Sent emails appear in "Sent Items" and etc.. But when I call for "mail" from the browser to send a link or page or mail, OE 4 comes to work and if I send from there, I can't find evidence of "Sent Items" altho I know it does send. I would assume it has to do with the reverting from IE 6 to IE 5.5. I would like to know if I can get OE4 out of the picture and have all OE functions perform from OE6. Thanks for any help.

Guess this is not an interesting title/post(?)

Well, I'll try again cause I ain't getting any response. Situation is: Have IE 5.5 as posted. Can email and receive email from OE 6(as posted) just fine. It's just that when I try to access email from IE (5.5) it brings up a OE 4 application. And when I send from IE4, I don't see "sents" or anything. This is confusing to me and would like to know how to correct the situation. Thank you. Bob

I guess your predicament is kind of confusing, Bob. You say you have IE 5.5; Outlook Express 6; and buried somewhere underneath, Outlook Express 4. How did you get OE 6 without upgrading to IE 6? What operating system? Have you considered uninstalling IE/OE completely or as far back as possible then upgrading again to either IE5.5 SP2 (my recommendation for any 9x OS) or IE 6?

    And yes, confusing

Kevin-Thank you for the reply. All works well and I hate the hassle of redoing. Only thing is that I haven't yet found a way to find the "Sent" email/link/page that sends from the mail function of the browser(OE4). I can send myself a BCC, but...
Best I can figure is that I DID have IE 6 at one time-began having trouble with it-tried repair with no luck-then backed off to last version of IE(IE5.5) via Add/Remove route and it left me with OE6 somehow and I don't know how OE4 got into the picture. . I thought that there might be some simple method (simple as in like one I could do) to merge it back, or into how it should be.
And BTW, I have found that other applications such as MSPaint or my digital camera editor, if I send from one of those-they also bring up OE4 for the job. O/S win98fe

    Try this:

Do a Find Files or Folders and look for msimn.exe and check the version in Properties. This should tell you which version(s) you have. Post back with the results and the complete path to the msimn.exe you want to use as the default e-mail app.

    you a good fellow :~)

Found 2 versions(Of course, you say). The one I wish to use for all apps. and situations is C:\Program Files\Outlook Express (OE6). The other was OE4 on D drive.

This should work. Go to Start > Run > type in "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg (be sure to include the quotation marks) and click OK. Reboot. Check both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express that Outlook Express is set as the default mail client.

Kevin-Did as instructed (including the " " marks(I c/p'ed it) restarted, came here and to check clicked on the mail function of browser and it still brings up OE4. If I delete OE4 from D drive located here D:\Program files\Program Files\Outlook Express(I don't know why the duplicate Program files-maybe part of the problem) , would that do the trick? BTW, OE is default in both IE and OE.

I wouldn't do that, Bob. But I would back up my e-mail folders and address books and consider a uninstall/reinstall of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. That's all I've got for now.

    Fixed(I believe)

I had a cy. of IE6 in my download folder so I decided to install over existing setup. That seems to have straightened out the mystery. Still have that OEv4 on D drive, but it doesn't get into the mix anymore. Thanks for the help along the way.
