Not to sure we understand what ya trying to do? You have video & want your folks in Portugal to see this video on their puter & vice versa? Make sure the format is the same! Pal=europe ntsc=usa.
You mite want to consider transfering to VCD, a form of dvd but limited of course, then they can play your videos on their puter no matter what format:D

Hello Helia; To transfer video from a vcr to your computer you need to buy either a video card or an external adapter that will convert video into a format that your computer can read. There are many of these on the market so there are a lot of choices.

One thing for sure, video takes up many gigabytes of your hard drive until converted to MPEG or WMP format. It is not unusual for a 15-20 minute video to use 5gb of hard drive space plus more in temp files during conversion. I've seen conversion software that recomends 50gb of free hard drive space!

If you are thinking of emailing video to Europe, I'd say forget that as most ISPs have limits on the size of emails. Follow Rancher's suggestion, record to a VCD and mail it. To do this you need a CD-R drive and a program to convert to MPEG.

Nero Burning Rom is the one I use. When you buy a card or converter, it will probably have the software you need to upload the video from the VCR and edit it. I find it a long and tedius process, but the results are worth the effort.

    Good Luck.

    Helia,

I use a ADS Pyro A/V Link capture box that works with my computer thru the firewire port. It's very easy and simple to setup and works great! ADS includes Video Studio editing software and you can also use the built in Moviemaker in Win XP.

I've seen them on eBay for around $150.
