Am having the most difficult time getting a ftp program to run as a server. It wont allow port usage from outside... think because router is not letting it use the port...

can anyone help me resolve this issue

Router is Linksys BEFSR41 with updated firmware...

I have not configured my antivirus nor zone alarm to run from the router yet... any input on that as well are welcome too... as in what are the benifits??

I have managed to connect to myself through ftp program but again those trying outside my network are not getting in...

Please help me figure this out

I too am on att cable... and is making me nuts!!

    Thanks all

    I use the Linksys BEFSR41.

Not sure I understand what you mean about the FTP problem...
so this may not be of any use:
I run a very simple free FTP program that works great.
    FTP Commander http://www.internet-soft.com/ftpcomm.htm

I use Norton AV, it came on my new Dell, the free updates are up in a week and I plan to switch to AVG.. another free bee.

I also use Free ZoneAlarm. The router protects you from the outside world but you need a firewall to control what your computer sends out.

You have to use the Linksys Port Forwarding deature in the control area of the router and forward ftp requests to port 20 or 21. I suggest using a different port because your isp probably forbids ftp servers.
