    Hi all,
I unlocked the Task Bar on XP Pro expecting to be able to move shortcuts off my desktop tohe Task Bar. Not so fast little critter! I can move the Task Bar, and it has the resizing handles for the area where I should be able to drop shortcuts, but I cannot drop a shortcut in there. I cannot resize the area either.

    Is there a Registry setting?

    Thanks, Paul

Are you trying to drag shortcuts down to the Quick Launch Bar? You shouldn't need to "unlock" the taskbar. Do you have Quick Launch enabled? I highlight the icon I want, hold the button, and bring it to the bottom. Sometimes it takes a second for the black bar to show me where it's going to be placed when I release the button. When you do unlock the taskbar, two bars of dots appear. You can move those around, too, to get the taskbar set up to appear as you want it to. I put mine on top of each other directly to the right of the start button. This gives me a long string if QL icons across the top, and my open apps showing underneath. HTH

    edit:
to enable QL, right click in the taskbar, choose properties, and tick the box on the taskbar tab

    simple

I unlocked the task bar first. Then rite clik on empty spot of taskbar & select quick launch. Now find the program's "exe" file not a short cut, usualy under program files folder. Select & then choose copy on the exe. Now place pointer on the "quicklaunch area next to the "start" button & rite clik then choose paste....

Yes, mam, Johanna, you got it. I did not know there was a such thing as Quick Launch, even though I had used it before. I had actually used the Group Policy editor to disable the TaskBar policy and when that didn't work I was quite confused.

    Thanks!

p.s., did you know Dylan wrote a song called Visions of Johanna? Quite a nice song. Did he write it to you? .:D

Glad that worked for you. I wonder why XP Home and Pro have QL disabled by default? When you turn it on, only "Show Desktop" is there. The first thing I do is put WE between it and start. Saves me lots of clicks.

Yes, Johanna, it saves an enormous number of clicks. For those of us working with this stufe tf all day, every day, it's more than a little time saver. I actually have blown out my index finger joint at times and needed to rest it. ~P
