EVerytime I try to get into a directory (My Documents, etc), I get a error message. "Internet explorer performed an illegal function ". This pops up as soon as the directory is opened.
Any suggestions? I tried reloading SE but it still cracks up with the message.

Run the Internet Explorer Repair Tool.
A work around would be to right click on a blank area in My Documents, then go to View and unselect As Web Page by clicking on it.

Do you mean Scandisk, etc? I ran scandisk and all but still no access to
files. In fact, after I attempt to open the programs and the message pops
up, I have to "restore My Desktop" each time.

I right clicked on My Documents but still got the "You have performed an
illegal operation" or something like that. As for the repair tool, if you didnt
mean Scandisk, can you direct me?

    Thanks.

Start\Run, type in Msinfo32 and press Enter. Go to the toolbar at Tools\Internet Explorer Repair Tool. Make sure the Repair option is selected, reboot when prompted.

This is somewhat misleading by the description in this thread but taken together with your other thread, it appears that you have a video driver problem and quite possibly some registry problems contributing to your dilemma. Tap on that F8 key during startup and boot into safe mode. Now try opening a couple few different files or folders. If you have no problem, then you will certainly want to give consideraion to upgrading your video drivers.

    ;)

Mark! That did it, bro. Appreciate checking back in here, no doubt.

Rockstar: Thansk for the advice as well. After scanning my system and all, new drivers are in order no doubt.

Thansk for both of you guys advice.

/me wonders when he will figure out why he gets booted out of this forum after 5 minutes.
