I have a Win2K VPN server set up and can access it with no trouble from a remote Win2K client. I'm trying to set it up so that remote Win98 clients can also access it. On the Win98 client I've installed the Microsoft L2TP Client and also the DUN 1.4 upgrade. I've successfully requested and installed a certificate on the client. Upon connection, I keep receiving the Error 629: "You have been disconnected from the computer you dialed." The user account I'm trying to connect with has permission to dial in. What else am I missing?

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated...
    Thanks..

Would you care to give some details my ESP is not working today?

How are you trying to connect?

Are you dialing direct from modem to modem, or thru a broadband to broadband connection, or modem to broadband etc?

Is the computer you are dialing behind a firewall or router? Is the 2k computer acting as a router.

If the computer you are calling is behind a router, did you port forward the MS VPN port 1723 to the local lan ip of the actual computer you are trying to connect to.

By "Microsoft L2TP Client " do you mean the MS VPN adapter?

If using the VPN adapter did you uncheck "Logon to Network "?

    My most sincere apologies.

I'm connecting broadband to broadband. The VPN server is not behind our firewall. Yes, I mean the MS VPN Adapter. I will check to see if "Logon to Network" has been selected.

Nah you don't owe no apologies.

And Newt is right I do need to get the SP3 for my ESP! Smile!

Is the 2k a workgroup or domain?

If Logon to to network is selected it will try to use the username and password of the win98 work station. So it has to be known to the 2k.

If Logon to network is not selected it will then ask for a Username and password.

Either is OK but to use the Logon to network the win98 computer has to be logged in as a known username/password (known to the 2k machine) and the password cannot be blank.

Additionally this user has to be specifically allowed in the properties of the incoming connection of the 2K.

In other words the username and password sent from the 98 to the 2k has to match exactly and cannot be blank.

For easier browsing add netbeui to both ends.

    Let me know!

The VPN server (2K) is part of our domain in the office. Logon to Network was not selected, and I'm using an account and password that does have permission to dial in. I tried selecting Logon to Network and also logging in to the 98 box using the same account info. Same error. The only thing I can think of is that I was not logged in using this account when I requested and installed the certificate. Sooooo, I requested another certificate (while logged into the proper account) and will try installing that one.
