    Hi all,

I came across Gosht Surf and read about it... allthough I like the idea of compleate privacy/invisibility I really dont want to spend hard earned cash to find out it doesnt really work. Can any one recommend maybe a free ware on the net some where that I might try? Can any one tell me if any of these programs are any good pay or not? Are they worth my time as I have become increasingly anal about security on the net!!! LOL. Any responces are greatly appreciated.

    Suggestions

A Router which Blocks incoming access attempts to the PC.

    AVG Anti-Virus Software.

Kerio for a Software Firewall to assist in control outgoing attempts to the Internet.

The Router will cost $$. But the AVG and Kerio are free for HOME use. And are well worth the cost.

And all work well in anything from 98 Original up to and including XP Pro.

However, whether they work well in Windows ME I do not know. Never used it for more than 4 days.

    BillyBob,

Thanks for the info but I am allready running AVG 6.0 and Sygate.. although im not sure I fully understand Sygate yet I belive it is doing the job. Im on a cable modem and running through a Linkseys 4 port router. I was curious as to the possibilitys of stacking up more security or if I really need it.
I probably dont though. Is Kerio easy to run and understand? and can you possibly offer a site where I can read about it? Sygate seems to work well but help files I belive are not what they shoulld be .. and I like something that is easy to understand and is user freindly to a beginner like my self... ;) Thanks so much for the responce I will go run a Google search for Kerio and do some reading.

    Regards,

Spyware/Hijacked has a iespyads.zip file [free] which will put a number of sites known to track you and do other undesirable things to you into your Restricted Sites Zone.
Just set everything in the Restricted Zone to disable or high, password to prompt.
Their cookies will be blocked, unwanted adware and spyware will be blocked from auto installing. After installing the file, if you ever get the message that "ActiveX controls are disabled and some items on this webpage will not display properly" just click OK and not worry. ActiveX has nothing to do with what you see, it is most likely the above mentioned trying to do a drive by install and is stopped.

    Kerio

I never even touched any settings. It does very well on its own.

    I know nothing about Sygate.

But it reads like you already have good protection.

    Billy and Mark....

    Hey there,

Billy thanks so much I think I might give Kerio a whirl and yes I am definitly protected! I just want to be sure.. but thanks for the info so much.

    Mark,

Unfortanatly... the file your recommended if I read correctly is not compatible with NS Navigator which I use but nothing there says that another program they recommend (HijackThis) is not compatible I might try that if possible.
Any more recommedations would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards to both of you,

    FireDancer :D

One suggestion that I do have.

Do not depend fully on just the onbaord AV software. At least once per weel run and Inline scan. Or if something looks suspicious more often.

I see Norton has changed considerabley. I used it today.

Also Housecall is a good one.

Housecal has ( a couple of time ) picked up as suspect File. Which both Norton and onboard AV missed.

You are talking about browsing invisibly.

None of this has anything at all to do with that.

What you are need is an Anonymous proxy.

An example of what an anonymous proxy will do, it will hide your IP and if pinged or in any way queried will report the IP of a special server called an anonymous proxy server.

These are special servers that are set up to only pass you thru to whereever you want to go, keep no records on you and if someone on the other end tries to trace you they end up with the IP if the Anonymous servers IP not yours.

Do a search on Goggle for "Anonymous proxy" the software to do this is plentiful. Look at A4Proxy and MultiProxy. But are basically free. Then you will have to search for free anonymous servers to use.

    It will take some work.

It's much cheaper to rent an X-rated movie and forget it. Lol!
