    Hi

Just upgraded from 7.0 to 7.1. I followed instructions of removing 7.0 and things went well. The only problem (big) is I have no email. The icon that is usually in the lower left with the navigator and composer icons is not to be found. What did I do wrong and how can I get my emil back?

    Thanks,

    TRoof

By any chance, did you download NSSetup-Base.exe? If so, I don't believe it includes the mail client.

To verify, you can check your "window" menu. If the mail client is listed, you are just missing the icons. If not, you need to install the correct version.

    try here:

    http://wp.netscape.com/download/full_install.html

Full version, includes Netscape Mail, ~30mb
    http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.1/windows/win32/sea/NSSetup-Full.exe

    Browser only ~12mb
    http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.1/windows/win32/sea/NSSetup-Base.exe

Yes. Go to the FTP directory you downloaded the file from, go into the
"xpis" directory (it will be called "windows-xpis" or "linux-xpis ") and
download the mail XPI. It'll install automatically.

    =============end c/p======================

Holger Metzger has an addons page that has an Install link for Netscape Mail and Newsgroups, in case it helps:

    http://www.holgermetzger.de/addons.html

The Install link goes to ftp://ftp.sillydog.org/usr/holger/addons/mail.xpi

    Thanks for the replys.

Yes , it looks as though I did download NSSetup-base. I will try the short version first and then the long version if it does not work. Unfourtantly I have to go to work so it will be a while before I can give it a try.

    Thanks

Good luck adding the mail portion of Netscape 7.1

If you prefer, you can also get mail.xpi from:
    http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.1/windows/win32/jgksyc/

PS, If it matters, I found the following from a newsgroup posting
    From: "Warren C. E. Austin"
    Date:Tue, 01 Jul 2003
    Newsgroups:netscape.netscape7.windows
Re: Big problems with installing NS 7.1

" if you add mail.xpi to a browser only installation, you won't get AIM (nim.xpi). "

    Alice,

I downloaded mail.xpi as you recommended. I guess it loaded automatically. There is a short cut on my desktop and an envelope icon in my tool bar both named Netscape Mail & Newsgroups. I restarted my computer and launched NS7.1. Still no Netscape Mail & Newsgroups opening up. When I click properties on the shortcut and locate the target it does go to the Netscape App. in the Netscape folder. No icon in the bottom left with netscape or composer either. Is there something else I need to do?

    Thanks,
    TRoof

I believe you should have been prompted to install mail.xpi. At least, I was when installing an xpi for the popup blocker on my husband's Mac version of Netscape 7.0

    Go to Edit|Preferences|Advanced|Software Installation, and
make sure "enable software installation" is checkmarked. If it isn't, checkmark it then open the mail.xpi again.

If you still have have mail.xpi available, then open it with Netscape 7.1 (File | Open File). Otherwise, re-download it.

PS. If you do redownload, I would try the mail.xpi from http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.1/windows/win32/jgksyc/
since that's the "offficial" 7.1 version.

    Hi again.
Here is the latest. Prior to your last post I downloaded NS7.1 full verison as incicated in tranquilo reply. I now have the mail and newsgroups but there is still one more problem. I probably should do a search and find the answer there but since we have gone this far ............. How do I import my mail
from my previous 7.0 to my new 7.1? I found the mail folder but have not been able to move it .

    Thanks again

Do you have more than one Netscape profile? If you have an existing profile, I believe that Netscape would have picked it up and used it.

    Profile locations here:
    http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7profloc.html

There is more than one way to move mail from one profile to another, but the one I have used is:

    start N7.1
    create mail accounts
    close N7.1
copy your mail files from the old profile to the new profile, overwriting where necessary.
in the new mail profile, delete all the *.msf files (be sure to delete the *.msf file from any mail subfolders, such as inbox.sbd)
    start N7.1
you should see your mail now...
don't forget to copy your addressbook file, bookmarks, etc from the old profile to the new.

back up you profiles before doing anything.

If there is a better way, someone should chime in... ;)

Thank you tranquilo and Alice. I was finally able to download about 10 minutes of spam and 3 seconds of real mail. I appriciate the much needed help. Wonder why 7.1 could not have included an import feature for 7.0 as they did for 4.7?

    Over and out,
