My office wants me to set up VPN. We have a server(DC) running Win2k server and 12 PC's. First off the router we are using is acting as our DHCP server. Shouldn't the server be the DHCP server?

So I have tried to set up VPN and every time I play around with it our network goes crazy. I was told that I should be using two NICs is this true? It seems that when ever I enable the second NIC and get VPN running no one can connect to the sever. Is there something that I am not doing correctly? Does anyone have a good place to get information on VPN.

Also is it even a good idea to run VPN on a DC or should I setup a separate server for the VPN.

    Thank You

You first need to configure your router to allow PPTP and protocol 47 in and forward those requests to your VPN server.
You can configure your server for VPN using 1 NIC or 2. It doesn't matter. However you need to take special consideration when using 2 NICs. 2 NICs means 2 subnets. If you are on small network, I would leave just 1 nic to use the job.
Configuring RRAS to allow VPN shouldn't mess up your network at all. You are just allowing another protocol on to the network, and expanding your network to authorized Internet users.
Also it doesn't matter where your DHCP server is. There are quite a few small organizations that have DHCP running on their routers. Some people even run DNS and WINS on their routers.
