Ata 133???

Hi all,
Just a quick question..Can you put a ATA 133 HDD on a older ATA 33/66 motherboard?? Will it slow it self down?? I know you can put slower drives on fatser IDE eg: ATA 66 on a ATA 133...

Just wondering.....

I have at least three different HDs rated at speeds higher than the controllers they are connected to.

30GB ATA 133 on an ATA 100 controller
80GB ATA 100 on an ATA 33 controller
40GB ATA 100 on an ATA 66 controller

Putting a 133 drive on a 66 controller means it won't run any faster than 66 - that's the limitation of this setup. Still, almost all HD's manufactured these days will (and often do) run slower than their advertised transfer speed.

And if you have the drives as master/slave, the slowest of the two will apply to both drives.

 

Installing a Promise ATA 133 Ultra PCI controller card and connecting your hard drives to it will give you the speed of your ATA133 hard drives.
