DANZA CLICKED a bad link and went to a site that:
-added a ton of sites to favourites
    -channged homepage
-and made downloads automatically open and run

HOW does DANZA disable Downloads automatically opening?

they could use that to install virus or something

    DANZA--
It depends on what you mean by downloading. If you mean clicking on an active link on web page which takes you to another web page, you cannot stop the downloading--except by clicking Stop in the toolbar. (How would you know you wanted to stop the downloading until you have seen what is there?) The best protection is to install the programs PeteC has recommended.
If, however, you mean that when you click on a link to a file for downloading (like a new program or an image) and you are not getting the screen that gives you the option to Save or Open, you have to do the following for each type of file.
Click Start|Settings|Folder Options|File Types tab and scroll to the type of file (JPEG, Microsoft Word Document, Bitmap Image, etc.). Highlight|click Edit|check the box that says "Confirm open after download "|Click Apply|OK. Remember you have to do this for each file type.

If you're using win98 do as Welshjim said. If you're using win xp open windows explorer, click tools>folder options>file types. Scroll through the list of extensions until you find zip, click it once to highlight it, and then click the advanced button. In the window that opens put a checkmark in the box that says confirm open after download.

And now you got them back so this can happen again. Go into Internet Options, click on the Advanced tab, uncheck Install on Demand for Internet Explorer and for Other.
