Can anyone suggest a way to turn off the intrusive sounds associated with web pages in such a way as to still allow listening to a music library stored on the hard disk or to a CD?

Hi shedman - and Welcome to the BBS :)

    Quite straightforward - In IE

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Scroll down to Multimedia and uncheck 'Play sounds in web pages'.

I have previously unchecked 'Play sounds in web pages' to no avail. Perhaps I must be missing something here.....?

Do you have Real Player installed?

In the place you unchecked the "play audio in web pages ", click on the question mark and click on the "play audio.... ". Read the bottom of the help window.
