I have created a form in Word that users need to fill out certain areas in the form. I want to protect the form in certain areas so that the users can't change the information. IE: Headings, questions.

BUT I want them to be able to enter information in at the required areas.

IS there a way to protect certain areas in a Word document. I have done something similar to what I'm asking in Excel. But having trouble finding how in Word.

    Help.
    Bill

    Bill,

In Word 2000 go Help > Index > type in 'form' >search > > 'Prevent users from changing a form containing form fields'

Is this what you are after?

What I'm looking for is like an application form.
I don't want the users to modify the titles, etc.
Just want them to enter information in the required fields on the form.

    Bill,

Surely this is what you want?

"Prevent users from changing a form containing form fields
After creating a form that users will view and complete in Word, you must protect it so that users can enter information only in the designated areas.

On the Tools menu, click Protect Document.
    Show Me

    Click Forms.

To assign a password to the form so that users who know the password can remove the protection and change the form, type a password in the Password box. Users who don't know the password can still enter information in the form fields.

To protect the entire form, click OK.
To protect only parts of a form, those parts must be in separate sections. Click Sections, and then clear the check boxes of the sections you don't want to protect.

Tip When you are designing or changing a form, you can quickly protect the form or remove protection from it by clicking Protect Form on the Forms toolbar. "

    Pete,

This works to a point. I can now protect certain sections of the form like I want but when I protect a section, the area where a person enters information on, drops onto the next line under the heading. IE: Name: ( this is where they would type the name). This section appears under the word "Name." But I can't modify Name which is great. but I want Name and the area to enter text on the same line.

    Any ideas.
    Bill

Not really - not a feature I've had ever used, but it sounds a bit like some reformatting is required.

Sorry, can't help further - good luck :)

    I've figured it out.
What needs to be done is your create your form the way you want then at the end of the form insert a continuous page break and that will let you protect what you want.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction.
