I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 and installed 5.0. Every time I install some new software (at least that's what it seems to be) the link to the 5.0 reader gets corrupted and is replaced by the old location of the 3.0.

How can I remove the old one and make sure that the new one is the one the system will keep?

shiguera --I understand you uninstalled Adobe Reader 3.0 using the Add/Remove application in Control Panel. Unfortunately that does not always get rid of all the files for a program, especially the C:\Program Files folder for the old program.
I understand you can see the directory location for the Adobe 3.0 folder since you are getting directed there when you do not want to be (or you can see it--when it is corrupted-- by right clicking on Reader 5.0's AcroRd32.exe shortcut and then Properties). I would think you could just delete 3.0's folder/files so now Adobe would have to look for files in the new Adobe 5.0 folder.
At worst you could uninstall v5.0, which hopefull should do a final cleanup of any old Adobe Reader files and reinstall v5.0.

I see the old directory location after the link is corrupted (right clicking on Reader 5.0's AcroRd32.exe shortcut and then Properties). This directory doesn't even exist anymore!

I have uninstalled 5.0 and installed again. That´s why I believe there is some registration that will has to be deleted.

Does anybody know where to look for it?

shiguera--Just double checking. Did you enter the correct directory location in the Target line of the shortcut? And is that changing by itself when you add unrelated software to your PC?
    My Adobe Reader shortcut has
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe "
    in the Target line and
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader "
    in the Look in line

Welshjim, yes, that's why I have when things are working ok. It gets changed by itself when I add some software. Also, when I double click on a pdf file it tries to find the 3.0 Reader (I find this in the file Manager and check what file is opening my pdf's).

shiguera --Well, you got me!! Sorry I could not help. Hope someone else will.
The only thing I can think of is to hold Shift and simultaneously right click on a (any) .pdf file, choose "OpenWith... " from the drop down menu, scroll to Adobe Acrobat Document, highlight it and check the box at the bottom "Always use this program to open... ", then OK. That should associate .pdf file with your new AcroRd32.exe.

I get a similar problem sometimes, with Acrobat Reader 3 (my cuurent pdf program) and an even older 2.1 version that came with lotus software that is still on my system since I don't have an uninstall for it. After I installed IE5.5Sp2 over I5.5 for example, a couple of days later I noticed that .pdf files had become associated with the old acroread program. Here are my notes on what I did, in case it helps:

10/2/01 noticed double-clicking PDF file gave an error, but opening Acrobat3 and browsing to file did not. Checked Filetypes and PDF Adobe Acrobat Document somehow got reassociated with old lotus acroread program. Edited Open action to C:\Acrobat3\Reader\AcroRd32.exe "%1"
based on info showing in my Adobe Acrobat Forms Document FDF FileType. Did the same for the print and printto actions.
