    Hi
Problem suddenly appeared in the last 48 hours. When I scroll down the page the movement is jerky (as if the page cannot keep up with the scrolling). The bar at the side is also slow to respond. When I type in a name (when the cursor line is flashing in the box) the letters do not keep in time with he typing so that the actual letters appear AFTER I have finished typing. Additional. I tried using SpyBot and after I initiated a search, the hour glass 'hung up' and the SpyBot program froze. A few other webpages (CNN for example) also froze but not all. It seems as if the computer is not keeping up with instructions. Too slow in other words. I use Windows98. Also, when in SpyBot, ( activated the help section and a notice came up telling me I did not have enough space. However, my cache is empty and I have only used 2 GB off a 10 GB hard drive (Sony Vario).

    Hi Julie49
Keep all questions here , hit the post reply button so everyone can see and help .

Next time you restart go into windows/temp and delete everything inside, also from control panel , Internet options use the delete files and mark the popup to delete offline content, also clear history, on the first page of IE options hit the accessibility button
and clear any checked box's, If there was a style sheet in use tell us, if you had made it or not. then content tab> auto complete
Uncheck any box's for now and use the clear buttons, also the advanced tab (Take notes of what is and not checked) use the
restore defaults , then apply, on same page uncheck
[ ] enable third party extensions, make sure >
[ ] enable install on demand is (other) is unchecked

Try running SpyBot in safe mode, while doing nothing else .

What version of IE and win 98 ? Go help about on IE's toolbar
    Post all info there please.
Any cursor delays while just in windows ?
    any other seamingly unrelated problems?

    cursor and scrolling and highlight

    Lonny!
Thank you VERY MUCH. I got as far as your instructions to "What is and not checked," then went into a couple of web pages and Voila! Fixed. Really appreciate your help.

    Thats good to hear.
Was there a style sheet or was this something to do with auto complete, Or who knows, care to guess ?

Is SpyBot able to do its thing now,?, I had at first thought maybe there was just to many others programs running, to few resources.

If You haven't trimmed what starts with windows yet. I'm sure someone would help,if need be. ?

Hey...I had the same problem and suffered through 3 months of trials and tribulations...tried all the suggested "fixes" here at the BBS, and from anyone else...then started emailing an HP techie who recommended to do a recovery with the HP disk...getting ready to do that caused all sorts of problems with backing up stuff to save...he told me I'd have to reinstall all programs installed after we purchased the computer, and save all email files, etc. 'cause they'd be gone...took hours/days trying to follow his instructions, which turned out to be wrong...got the straight poop from these guys here at the BBS, and ran the recovery...after all that, it turned out that all of my email files were still intact without backups, and most of the software was still in place! Glad yours got fixed so easily. The only site where I have a bit of jerky response when scrolling (oddly enough) is this one! And my cursor blinks sporadically and frequently, but other than that, all is well! So far, anyway!

    Scrolling

    Hi Lonny
It was auto complete thing I think because that's as far as I got when it started to work okay. The SpyBot problem was not solved because whe I go into Safe Mode, a notice comes up telling me I don't have a mouse attached and would I like to one. Problem is, I DO have a mouse and it works good! However, it doesn't let me continue further into Safe Mode unless I answer 'Yes' or 'No' but I can't answer because the screen freezes! Oh, well, if it doesn't need fixing, etc, etc.
    Thanks

    drewbarbpi Hi,
My guess is that your blinking curser is caused by some program mostly spy running in the background.
I had the problem with my curser blinking from curser to hour glass. Eventually Spybot and Add-aware got rid of all the unwanted parasites and the problem stopped.
    good luck
