I started with Win95 over 5+ yrs ago and then updated to Win98se about 4 yrs ago.
I want to be rid of the Windows Logon when i first Start Up. However when i omit that step, i only get the old Windows setup.
    :(

Just out of curiosity, how are you omitting the logon step?

I was going to ask the same question. I am guessing by clicking cancel at the Network logon prompt.
You can usually get rid of this by entering the network properties window and choosing windows logon instead of Client for Microsoft Network. But, I don't know how this will effect this situation since it seems to revert back to a different OS.

It is not the old OS but another profile that was carried over from last.

The steps to sync this is many so your best bet is to just handle the login and forget it.

    To do this

    Start-run

    type
    del c:\windows\*.pwl

    rt click network neighborhood-properties
in the white box dbl click "Client for microsoft networks "
    put check in quick logon

then at bottom of this screen in Primary network login choose "Windows logon "

    Apply ok

    Reboot

When it comes back up it will show the logon screen with the username that is always there. Just click OK when it asks for a password hit enter. Do not enter a password!

The next time you boot it should go stright to the desktop no username or password prompt.

I will explain it better. Since i am the only one to use my computer, i have been wanting to automatically log on avoiding to have to put my password in Windows Logon.
You can do that by going to Passwords in Control Panel and click on Change Passwords and type in old password and leaving new blank.
Well i did that and rebooted and i did log on automatically without having the Logon Window come up. However instead of Win98se coming up, the older version i originally had on the computer comes up.
So anyway thankyou mflynn and others for reply.
mflynn-you said: 'It is not the old OS but another profile that was carried over from last.

Then you give steps which do not look too hard, but how do i know it will not do same as changing password had done?

OK so if you now go to

    start-logoff and click OK.

WHO does it want to log off? If it don't have the name that you normally use then put it in and hit enter for the password.

I will be leaving for office in 10-20 mins.

On Start at the Log Off, it shows Crystalwoman.
(I do have my name in the Log On as crystalwoman however, if that makes a difference C or c ? )
It then says 'are you sure?' so i clicked to see what happens.
I log off and then the window with the small crystalwoman comes up wanting my password, so i put the one i use in and it takes me back to where i want to be.....same situation i was avoiding.
so do you think i have Crystalwoman originally in, when i first got computer with Win95?
Thanks whenever you get time to answer....

    Would the Registry Compactor help?

I wondered if, like i said, i had put my name in as 'Crystalwoman' when i first got the computer 5 1/2 yrs ago, and then i decided i did not want it with a capital C and made it 'crystalwoman'???

    Anyway just thinking? :)
