I am not able to run a game CD. It usually tells
me that the "autorun.cfg" file is either missing or corrupted.
I did a search on Explorer for the file and it found nothing by
that name. Is there a way to re-create such a file?
    Thanks--Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

One question... do you get this error message after installing the game or when trying to run the game after an *apparently* successful install?

If the former, try opening a DOS window and looking for a setup.exe file. It will probably, but not always be on the root directory of the CD. If necessary, do a "dir setup.exe /s" from the root of whatever drive your CD is (usually D:\ or E:\, but I've seen M:\ and Q:\ and other weird ones) .

Reading the directory names should give you a good idea of which one will install the game.

If the game installed, using the same DOS window, cd to the directory the game was installed in... usually c:\progra~1\game_name and look for .exe files. Typing the filename (with or without the .exe extension) and hitting the enter key should start it. If you're more comfortable using Windows Explorer, the process could be done using it, but I'm not much of a GUI person.

If you want to automate the process, you could write a simple .bat file and keep it on your desktop and double click on it to start the game. Just type in the path and name of the executable (use notepad or edit) and give the file a .bat extension (for example game.bat).

Or, a reinstall of the game might get autorun to work.

    Just a couple of thoughts...

Make life easier on your self.

Right click on start and select Explore to do your search by selecting the various drives and/or folders on them.

Much easier than DOS. And easier to understand.

    corrupted autorun.cfg

Thanks to Billy Bob and "dishawjp" for the assistance. Did have
a friend suggest using DOS to help do a manual setup to
get the game to kick into start-up...I was using the game on
my laptop for over a year before having problems.

    Billy Bob,
did run an "Explorer" search and it came up dry on trying to
    find autorun.cfg.

Appreciate the input gentlemen. FYI, the game in question if
EA Sports "Triple Play" baseball. A great little game. I have the
    2001 version.
