    I am running Windows ME.

I would like to play an old chess program called Battlechess by interplay.
It never works. I would like to run it in DOS mode without windows running, but this is not possible with ME as far as I can tell.

    I keep getting this error...

The program encountered a general protection exception
    Fault location: 1EED:F643
    Interrupts in service: NONE

If you know of a way to get this program to run on ME please let me know what to do. I have exhausted the Windows troubleshooting and help directories.

Will it work in Windows 2000 or XP? If so I would consider spending the money to upgrade.

    Thanks

You are quite correct the game does not run well in ME.

ME does not have a DOS Mode the way lower versions of Windows do. And VERY FEW ( if any ) DOS capabilities. That is why I dumped it after just three days.

However. I just selected it in XP Pro and it would not even start. But then I changed the properties of the shortcut so it runs in the compatibility mode for Win95 and 256 colors and it works fine.

XP is newer and a little tougher to get used to But it is by far superior to ME. And much more versatile
