on windows98 se the system continues to check the floppy many times on almost every windows action. I have disinstalled antivirus, reloaded windows98se but without result. With a floppy inserted the continuous checking procedure stops.
    Any suggestion??
    Thanks

The first, and simplest, thing to try is clearing the Recent Documents menu: Start>Settings>Taskbar and Start Menu and click on the Clear button.

The other, more involved fixes can be found here.

This is a reach here, Right click on My Computer, select Properties, click on Performance, click on File System, click on Floppy, uncheck box for Check for floppy every time..., then click on Removable Disk, uncheck box for Enable write-behind cacheing...
If not checked, check them and then uncheck them, hitting Apply each time.

    Yhank you Markp62,
as said before I have drastically resolved the problem by reformatting the disk and reloaded win98; therefore I am not able anymore to try your suggestions which probably will work. I will filed them for "future memory ".
