Hi starz65 - and Welcome to the BBS :)

Seems like the uninstall of Excite Messenger fouled up IE - suggest a repair/re-install on the cards.

    Two ways -

    The official MS way -
    here

    Another way -

    Start > Run >type or paste in rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf

  3. to hide this advert.

i tried both i'm not sure if it worked for the first one but the second came up with error in setup missing entry installhinfsection? not sure what that is.i kind of wonder if i should do a full recovery before my system really crashes.

    Can you elaborate on this?

The command line I posted may have lacked some spaces - try this:

    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir% \ Inf \ ie.inf

If this doesn't deliver do the following :

Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders.

Open Windows folder > open inf folder > scroll down to ie.inf > right click and choose install.

When done reset view to Do not show hidden .....

If this doesn't do the trick a Repair of XP is probably your best bet.

Read this first - under R = Repair the Windows XP Installation - just in case you don't know :)
