I've accidentally emptied the "Deleted" Folder in Outlook Express and there I want to recover what was in it

I did a restore of Documents and Settings because I thought it was located there, but the contents of the "Deleted" folder did not reappeared:confused:
I then tried restoring Outlook Express in Program Files but the contents of the "Deleted" folder STILL not reappear!:mad::mad:

Is it possible recover the contents of the "Deleted" Outlook Express Folder from a recent backup of my hard drive? If so how and where is it located on the hard drive??? (I want to avoid recovering the whole drive)

There are some programs (most you must purchase) such as this one that claim to be able to recover items deleted from the Deleted folder. If the mail account you're using OE to access is a hotmail, msn account or other pop3 account, you might be able to find those items by accessing the account via the web.

What kind of backups do you have? Depending on what the backup was made with, you might have a shot at getting the folder contents recovered from there.

OE folders are stored as dbx files on your drive, so a search of your user profile for *.dbx will reveal their location.

If you had deleted the deleted items.dbx file you might have had a chance to revover it...But since you "emptied the "Deleted" Folder" you're pretty much out of luck.

But, what is the file size of the deleted items.dbx file? If it's zero bytes - Out of luck. If it's really large, you might look for one of the many dbx file readers...

The default location for dbx files is

    C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

where GUID is a number [Global Unique Identifiier] which uniquely identifies an identity.
