Images Not Appearing [in Hotmail email]

Hi Guys,
dunno if I'm in the right place - nowhere else seemed to fit my problem which is -

Emailed images are not showing (being replaced by placeholders) in Hotmail (JPegs & Gifs). It doesn't matter whether I'm using IE or Firefox. So it would seem not to be a browser issue.

On the odd occassion they do, but if I forward that email they disappear again.
I've looked at settings throughout Hotmail and can't see anything,

Any ideas?

Is this issue only with Hotmail ? Can you see the images on other sites ?

not a problem with any images anywhere apart from hotmail.
