The original announcement from the developer is here: Classic Shell • View topic - Classic Shell no longer in development. Source code released

I know this is sad news for the millions of Classic Shell users. This is not good for those of us who use Start8 or Start10 either because competition drives innovation and brings more options for consumers. With Start10's chief competition shutting down, it will mean fewer options for consumers, and perhaps a stagnation of Start10's development that is needed to keep it current with the changes in Windows Ivo talks about.

    Wait and see.

I even use Classic Shell on Windows 7. Can't imagine using Windows 8 or 10 without it.

It is possible to get used to the new stuff:D

On the other hand, you can also learn how to make shortcuts to Control Panel etc.

I agree about W8 but W10 is much easier to get used to. While I use Start10 on this computer, I use W10's native desktop on my other systems and it is not hard going back and forth.

If you like Classic Shell, Start10 will not disappoint.

    Here's a list of replacements...

Applications filed under: Start Menu Replacement

Maybe so, if 10's start menu is better than 8, as Bill said. I hope I get the chance to play with the newer OS sometime soon.

I used Start 8 for my 3 Windows 8.1 computers - the Microsoft menus were terrible. I have been using the out of the box Windows 10 Start Menus on my 2 desktops and laptop and have had no discomfort. As Steve noted above, you can get used to the new stuff. Just bought a new PowerSpec G419 a couple of weeks ago and I was up and running in no time with no change in Start over what I had been using.
