I am one of many who had a problem installing 1709. I finally had to re-install Windows 10 from scratch.

My brother is having the same problem - gets an error each time he tried to install 1709. Will the fall update install with no problem or does he still need 1709.

Have all prior updates been installed?
Have you disabled any 3rd. party Anti-virus software?
Have you disconnected all unnecessary peripherals?
What install process are you using? Auto Update? ISO?

We tried all those fixes and none worked - they didn't work for me either. This is my brothers machine and is still on the previous version - forgot what it was. He gets the updates automatically. They seem to download and start to install, but never finish. This has been happening for weeks. I told him I had the same problem and gave him all the fixes I tried, but so far, no luck. In my case I had to re-install from scratch, which he is trying to avoid. Will the fall update work (install) without the 1709 update?

The newest version has all the previously issued updates (hence the GB size) so it will make your OS the latest.

I also had the same problem with one of my computers. The downloaded update never installed successfully. So I downloaded the latest ISO & updated the system manually. Everything went well.

I'm a bit confused. By the "fall update", do you refer to the Creators Fall Update? If so, they (it and 1709) are one and the same.

    See Windows 10 version history.
