Working on a friend's Windows 8.1 HP Stream 360 Laptop. It was a gift and I was able to remove the original owner's User account via another thread. However, now I can't bypass the Welcome screen login requirement for the administrator account I set up for my friend. When the computer boots, we get a Welcome screen with a photo holder and my friends name. A message states "The user name or password is incorrect. Try again."

When I click the "OK" box, I get a screen with a photo holder and my friends name (User Account I set up). There is a box with the User name already inserted and a blank box asking for a password. I enter the password and all works fine. However, I would like to bypass the login/password requirement.

When I access the User Accounts console via Run, netplwiz, I am unable to uncheck the block that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. That block is already blank. I have tried checking the block - Apply - restart and then accessing User Accounts again, unchecking - Apply - restart with no luck. Any ideas?

    lj50,

The link you provided did the trick. I used the Microsoft Autologon tool download and it worked. I'm very glad that it worked because I looked at the alternative registry hack and that appeared to be a bit over my head. Many thanks.
