    Please help.

I tried to upgrade zone alarm earlier and I'm not sure what went wrong but I keep getting a message that says:

''Set up is unable to install the TrueVector service. Install cannot continue without the shutting down of the true Vector ssevice.

Please use the service manager to shut down the True Vector service and then restart the installer program.''

What is the TrueVector service manager and how can I find it? I am lost. Please help. I am unable to stay online for long since this took place.

    Thanks.

    open the ZoneAlarm Control Center

select Overview, then the Preferences tab

    uncheck Load ZoneAlarm at Startup

    close the Control Center

reboot your computer and the True Vector service will not run. you should then be able to proceed with your upgrade.

    good luck

    :)

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for your reply. Thing is though I'm unable to fine Zone Alarm anywhere on my computer :( . I just don't understand why. As a result of this I am unable to carry out what you suggested. Anything else I can do:confused:

    Thanks again.

mich2mom, what are you using as your OS (operating system)? XP or 98SE?

    Hello mich2mom,

Right click on the ZA tray icon - by the clock. Shut it down.

If you're running XP and its not showing the ZA icon, click on the "knob" to expand the what XP call the notification area. Then right click and shut down.

    Regards - Charles

Hello to Mark, toastmaster and charles,

I got it done. I couldn't find the ZA icon on my task bar or anywhere else so I when to find- files or folders and found it and I jus deleted the entire thing because no matter what I tried I kept getting a page that says this:

After I found and deleted the folder I was able to re-install ZA successfully.

    Thanks for all the help.

    :)

    Hello mich2mom,

Glad you got the problem resolved. By the sound of things, what occured was the update was attempted while ZA was running which corrupted the truevector component.

So, the next time there is an update, you know what to do, shut down ZA first.

BTW, this rule applies to any software update unless otherwise specified, which is rare.

    Regards - Charles
