I am attempting to uninstall the old version so I can do a clean install of the new one (free version).
When I click to uninstall, a dialogue box says "Data Execution Prevention is closing this program ".
I went into DEP & it wouldn't allow ZA uninstaller to be excluded. I then ticked "turn on DEP for essential windows programs & services only." This allowed the ZA uninstall box to appear for the first time.
I clicked on it & it seemed to go thru the uninstall motions ( icon disappeared from system tray, hard drive working away) However, the computer suddenly shut-down,re-booted itself & a dialogue box said "Your System has recovered from a serious error."
The ZA icon returned & the old version is intact & functional.
The only other thing I note is READ ONLY is checked in ZA Properties & I can't uncheck it.
I would really appreciate your help.

    Hi timmins,

it seemed to go thru the uninstall motions ( icon disappeared from system tray, hard drive working away)
Trying to un install w/o shutting the program down caused a problem.

Right click on ZA's icon and shut it down - then try the uninstall. Go into the Task Manager and make sure vsmon.exe which is the actual firewall is not running. The tray icon is the UI only.

If this doesn't work - post back.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi,Charles. Thanks for your reply.
I clicked "Shutdown Zonealarm" in the system tray icon & the Task Manager showed no applications running.
However, when I went to uninstall, the computer immediately shut down, rebooted & the now familiar, "Your computer has recovered from a serious error" appears...

Ok, can you go back to a System Restore point just prior to the time before you tried to uninstall ZA?

    If you can:

Change the DEP setting to turn on DEP for essential windows programs & services only. Reboot.

Re install that earlier version of ZA, I hope you still have the setup.exe for it.

Make a manual restore point in System Restore.

    Uninstall ZA. Reboot.

    Make another manual restore point.

If you get thru all that, then install the new ZA version.

When doing any of this, ZA should not be running. And you shouldn't be connected to the internet either.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi,Charles.
    Noted & with thanks. :)
I will try this tomorrow & get back to you, as I have to go out now.
PS I am surprised at this difficult /complicated uninstallation, as so many others have gone simply & smoothly...
