RE: Baseline Security Analizer. I ran a scan and the results were Severe Critical.

I have installed the five critical updates they had on the help and support but they say I don't have 8 critical updates from April 2004. I have located them I believe but of the first 5 they have IE 5.0 and 64 bit which I do not have. They do have some for IE 6.0 and 32 bit but they are all for IE. My question is, do I install all of the update IE 6.0 and 32 bit? Or do I ignore any and all for IE. as I use Netscape 4x and 7.0. I am tied into IE I suppose as I use Earthlink Total Access which is ran from IE.

They also state that the SQL/MSDE Server is not installed nor is my IIS running. I don't know what either of those are.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have been fortunate as I haven't had but one virus and that wasthe Worm
which I had no problem in removing except my CD-Rom went south on me and the harddrive follwed it the next day. Could that have been from the worm?

Current Windows updates are cumulative, meaning newer ones for IE have the older ones included. Your's aren't missing, if you updated at the windows update site. Just stick with the critical updates that are made available for you at the site. It examines your system and gives you what you need.
They also state that the SQL/MSDE Server is not installed nor is my IIS running
Don't worry about it, just information about your computer for you. It is for data transfering on a network where your computer is the server, or the one putting out information.
About the drives going south, that would depend on which worm you had.

Thank you Mark. Now I can get on with my life.

I do appreciate the information you gave me. I thought that might be the case but I was far from being sure about the downloading of the updates. I'm relieved
that I need not be concerned that the SQL/MSDE is not installed and the IIS isn't running. I don't know why they think that very computer they sell will be used on a networking system.

For anyone who haven't read Langalist Standard Edition, 2000-07-15, Just for Grins and likes a good chuckle should. It's worth the read.

    Take care. Oscar
