I have two XP related problems since installing. First, when shuttung down the system will not power off. It gets to a point and issues a message saying "it is now safe to turn your computer off ". I try to turn it off with the on/off switch and it will not turn off. I end up pressing the reset button and then the off button. This was not a problem in MS2000.

Second, the screen saver intermittently starts. Sometimes it starts as it is setup and most of the time it does not. I come back hours later and the sreen is still on. Can't imagine why, but could this be related to another problem I have (posted under the Hardware section) that describes my problem with loading a video driver with XP.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Your shutdown problem is described Here along with the fix. 5th of 5 shutdown issues described in the article.

Screensaver issue - see if This M$KB article describes your problem. If so, the recommended fix is SP1.

And it is usually good to mention which XP version and what SP level when posting a problem.

Newt, Sorry I knew better. I am running XP Home 2002 with SP1 installed.

Will look at your suggestions and give them a try.

Well - with SP1 already on there, not sure how much good the 2nd suggestion will be.
