I've recently had to chuck a motherboard and buy a new one, expecting to format the hard drive as usual, backed things up, the usaul. But when i went to run the setup from my working XP Pro disc, the setup blanked when it was starting up (after doing tap any key to start....) i tried XP Home, MCE, 2k... but none would work, so i had to use my Windows 98 disc to format my hard drive and repartition it. That worked fine, then i tried the XP Pro disc again, and it installed as normal. But then i went to install MCE (on the other partition) and multiboot them (done many times before with both OS's) and i had the same problem as before i let win98 on it, the MCE setup just hangs when it is inspecting my hardware configuration.

Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? is it a hard disc issue, not liking ntfs for some reason :| it's really annoying because i don't like having 1 os to use. Thanks for any help.

Might be a hard drive problem (might not). Sure wouldn't hurt to go to your hard drive manufacturer's website and download their diagnostic program and run it. Also may want to run a memory check... you can find memtest86+ HERE .

I've had a similar experience. Don't know if your problem is the same but it is easy to find out. Run FDISK or Partition Magic and make sure that the active partition is set to the partition that you want to install to. Good luck:)
