xp reload

    I have a registared copy of windows xp pro. I lost the OEM number and need to reload. Is there any way I can find this number and be able to reload xp/

    Welcme to the BBS :)

    Assuming that you have the XP Pro CD and want to reload to the same PC then you should not need the CD code to do a repair installation.

    Boot from the CD, ignore the first option to repair, accept the licensing agreement and select the second repair option and your current installation of XP will be repaired - fixed.

    MS Knowledgebase Article 315341 covers all this - just type 315341 into the Search box in Help and Support (Start . Help and Support) while connected to the net and hit the Knowledge Base tab.

    Go to this page, download and run "Keyfinder." It will give you the product key. Once you have it, write it with a felt-tip pen on the CD's label. That way, you won't lose it again. ;)
