I have tried to intstall win xp pro on my pc and I keep getting 0x0000000a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The only way I can get it to install is to turn off L2 Cache in my bios and then it will install without any problems. After I install it I turn on L2 cache and it will not boot up and will reboot once it starts to load up. If I leave the cache off it doesnt run like it should, it runs slower and takes a few seconds to load up anything such as explorer and everything else. I would like to know if there is a way to fix this problem so I can leave L2 cache on so it will run smoothly, I am currently running Win98se with the option on and it runs great, but I would like to put win xp pro on here. MY specs are: Pcchips M920lr motherboard, celeron 2.4ghz, 512 megs ram, gforce 4 mx 440 video card, 80 gig western digital harddrive. If anyone can help please do. Thanks.

The version of bios that I have is the latest and last one because my board is discontinued, I havent updated the chipset drivers, I get this error on a clean install should I update my drivers and do an upgrade?

Have you updated your BIOS? - and the chipset drivers for your motherboard?

Well, the fact that you can enable and disable a hardware component is pretty telling as to what the cause is. About the only thing you can do is make sure you have the latest drivers for all motherboard components. If its still dying after that. It may be the cache has gone bad on your chip, or your motherboard is otherwise causing problems.

Please reply using the 'Post Reply' button rather than editing and adding to your original post - it gets very confusing otherwise :)
