    EDIT:

Hello everyone, when I restarted my machine, after the BIOS page, instead of getting the Windows loading page I got a black screen instead. I tried everything on the microsoft help page (tried the recovery console - fixboot and fixmbr as well as recovering windows through the installation CD) but I still get the black screen. The last one is supposed to copy some files in the installation folder and then continue with the setup process, but all I get is the black screen. Any ideas of what more I can do without losing all my files? Thanks in advance for any help!

If I try to start in safe mode, I get the following messages:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\...
where ... is various files and the computer freezes. The last file on the list is \system32\drivers\nvatabus.sys
Last known configuration that worked option goes directly to a black screen.

Hello idinos and welcome to the Board,

The problem appears to be \system32\drivers\nvatabus.sys

nvatabus.sys is a nvidia driver and the latest v2.41 is causing problems like yours.

These are the references I came up:

    http://www.techspot.com/news/5587-nforce-v24x-mainboard-drivers-removed.html

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=12177

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nvatabus.sys&btnG=Google+Search you can search further on google, but from what I'm reading, a repair operation fails, confirmed by your failure, and the only recourse is a re install of the OS.

    Regards - Charles

Thanks for the welcome and your tips!

With some help from another gentleman I managed to get into windows safe mode by fiddling with the registry, however once I tried to restore it I got the same error. What is indeed strange is that I didn't update any nvidia drivers, I just restarted the computer and it happened. At least I managed to salvage most of my files.

I'll carry on trying, thanks for your help!
