    this is strange.
my xp pro boots up and runs properly.
However, there are some very strange things going on ,possibly related to video drivers or perhaps a virus.

example 1 ; In search mode the window reveals the standard display, dog and all. Except above the dogs head is a very small representation of what used to be the whole search dialoge window, i.e theres nothing there but a thin whaite ballon!!

example2 ; Attempting to run system information results in an visible hourglass in progres and no display presented.
same with system restore, some activity and no results!?

A current virus scan found nothing.

    Any ideas out there?

Hi - and Welcome to the Board :)

My first suggestion is to run System File Checker

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow , note the space. You may be asked for the Win XP installation CD. SFC does not check back and tell you what it has done, if anyhing.

I know that this does not solve your problem, but AgentRansack is a vastly superior file search engine to the Win XP offering and Aida32 a more informative applet than System Info.
