I am trying to network my laptop to my desktop in a peer to peer or computer to computer network and both computers network connections show "cable unplugged ". I don't see NETBEUI as a protocol choice. Can anyone help. Thanks.

First you can put all the protcols you want and it will not connect while it says network cable unpluged.

The reason it says this is because you are using a cable wired for a hub/switch!

You need a crossover cable to directly connect 2 computers.

They can be had at Radio shack, Circut City etc.

Then once you have the connection, if both of these computers are XP Pro you do not need netbeui.

But you will if either or both are XP home .

    So here is how!

    Good luck,

Tell me more then, what you are connecting.

The connector is RJ45 normally so if this is what you have on both computers then you need RJ45?????

Now if one of the computers has no RJ45 connector new ballgame.

    You no want serial network!!!

You can not go from a RJ45 on one end of cable to USB on the other.

    Tell me what you have.......

    Mike

    Mike,
I found the crossover cable and installed and now the computers are networked. Thanks.
Now my next problem, when I try internet connection sharing I get the following error: "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled (null). Any ideas?
