    Hello,
Using Win XP Pro. Windows goes through Post, every thing OK.Then screen freezes. I turn off power, and start up again. Sometimes, it finishes booting. Sometimes, I have to turn off power and start again 3 or 4 times to get Win. to finish booting. Have run SFC, have used Restore, checked Device Manager, run error check.
    Any help appreciated.

Once it starts, does it run OK?

Will it reliably start in safe mode or does that hang too?

    Hello Coyote,

MS has a tool to analyze boot times http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/sysperf/fastboot/bootvisdwn.mspx

They make clear not to use it as a "fix" and no longer available as a download from them.

You can get it from MajorGeeks http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664

It does sound like a driver(s) that's hanging. If it's not a driver, than disable apps one a time - boot up, then disable another app - bootup, and so on.

Of course, it can also be the disk drive. If the HD Mfg. has a tool to check the HD on their web site - worth doing.

    Regards - Charles
