    Hello,
OS seems to load fine, till it gets to the Welcome Screen. Then it freezes. I have to restart it, till it finally completes the bootup. I have run error check, shows no problems. Run System Restore, still stalls at the Welcome screen. Any help appreciated.

    AMD XP 2000+
    512MB DDR memory
    WinXP Pro

Hmmm...what kind of motherboard do you have?

Did you run virus scans and Spybot?
Are you getting any error beeps? Anything in the event logs?
Does your cursor move at the welcome screen? When it does boot, anything unusual in Task Manager? You could use msconfig to boot diagnostically- maybe something is preventing Windows from loading.

Does it ever freeze while you're working, or only at boot?

    Motherboard is Soyo-SY-K7V Dragon Plus
Ran Norton Virus scan & Spybot
Cursor moves in the Welcome Screen when it is froze.
Does not freeze except on boot.
Does not freeze everytime on bootup. May boot several times before a freeze up.
I have 33 processes in Task Manager. Dont know what most of them are.

It booted up fine this morning, and this eve. whenI got in. I never know when it wont bootup.

So you just keep pushing the reset button until you can get past the welcome screen? Have you ever left it sit for an hour just to see if it would finish with the welcome screen on its own? You could post a list of what's in your start up menu. Something it there must be making it hang, since it is not freezing on you mid task. The fact that your cursor will move tells me it is trying to complete a job, but has stalled, for some reason. I'd have a good look at the start up menu, though. How do you connect to the internet? Are you on a dial up connection? Have you ever just left the comp on? Put a password on it and don't shut it off, except for an occasional reboot. Might be a good idea to do your back ups, too, in case this is just a warning of something more serious, like a hardware problem.

Yes, I keep pushing the reset button till it gets past the Welcome Window. Or, I can shut down and restart that gets it past the Welcome Window.
I have not tried letting it set, to see if it would finish loading. I will try that the next time it freezes, and get back wit the results.
I connect with a dial up connection.

    hp psc 2000 Series
    officejet 6100

Download this freebie and install it. It will add a tab in your control panel called, appropriately, "Start UP ". Go through the tabs in it and shut off all unnecessary programs, then reboot. The ones I would shut off right away are:
    NeroCheck
    InCD
    Microsoft Office
    Kodak Easy Share
and probably some more, but I don't know what they are... Only leave on Internet Security and System Processes (and since you have HP stuff, leave it on, too) and more questions might be answered here on Black Viper

With luck, shutting off whatever is trying to load at boot will solve the hang problem.

Sorry I took so long to reply. I have been very ill. I downloaded and installed Start Up. Shut off all the programs I didnt think were necessary. So far, the boot up stall has stoped. Thanks to everyone for your help.
