When I first install WinXP will it load drivers for my trusty old Zip 250 Parallel Port drive? I know it's antiquated, but I don't want to give it up. Iomega has XP drivers available for download for it from their site, but what I want to do is put all my XP drivers onto a Zip disc before I actually install it and then copy the drivers back to the computer after XP is installed, but of course I'll need the Zip disc drivers to be able to do this.

Also will XP install its own drivers for my ATI video card? Are the XP drivers generally OK, or is it better to go along with the products own drivers? Will XP give me a hard time if I try to uninstall its drivers and use the product's own drivers?

    1. Zip 250 - may or may not depending on whether they are on the XP CD or not. There is really no problem in installing XP, downloading specific drivers to HD, installing the drivers and then copying to Zip. As I recall my Zip 100 parallel worked OK in XP.

You could check the MS hardware compatibility list, But I would go ahead anyway as you say there are XP drivers available.

    2. ATI - XP is likely to load a generic VGA driver - may ask you for an install CD for ATI. You can ignore this, download ATI drivers and install. Then copy to Zip.

For video go with the ATI drivers and associated software. If XP loads a driver it will be just that - no supporting software.

Win XP will not give you a hard time if you install the products own drivers - they may not be digitally signed, but you can safely ignore this (not all third party drivers are digitally signed as they have to be submitted to MS along with $$$ - takes time and most vendors want their drivers to be available without waiting for MS to approve them - and they like to save the $$$ :))

Two ways - either run the exe file you download or go to Device Manager > Display Adaptors .... > Properties > Update driver.

I installed an old ZIP 100 in my Win XP, hooked it up and XP had the basic drivers and it worked fine for me.

I also installed a new ZIP 250 in the Grouch's machine and it too worked fine.

I believe you'll find that the ZIP drivers are included with you Win XP just as a lot of printer drivers.
