When poking around on my computer the other day, I noticed a folder in Program Files called XoftSpy. It doesn't seem to have a program inside it, though there is a log file. I looked in All Programs to see if it was there, but unless it's filed under something else, it isn't. I also looked in Add and Remove Programs and it's not there either. Why is this folder on my hard drive if the program isn't set up and how do I safely get rid of it? Your help would be appreciated.

A quick Goggle on "XoftSpy" finds:

Is your pc a store bought pc or have you had anyone work on it in the past? You could look at the "date" of the folder to see when it was created to give you some ideas.

Good idea! It's dated 10/2005 which is the last time I had someone else work on my computer, so I suspect it's a folder leftover from something they did. Can I just delete the folder, though? All it has in it is a log folder and a folder entitled: 5361-8791-2729-7642-5718 which has SLS (?) files inside it.

It shouldn't be a problem with deleting it...BUT, the safe way is to rename the folder. If nothing dies on your pc for the next few days, then you could delete it.

I have had that on my puter from years ago. I bought it and that # you say 5361-8791-2729-7642-5718 is exactly what my code looks like. It is the code that you get when you purchase it. I still use it. I do a sweep all the time, it is an anti spyware, It catches a lot of things I like it.

Interesting. I never bought it! Wonder where it came from. I don't think it's actually on my add and remove programs list. Maybe someone used it when servicing my computer and then removed it and a folder remained behind.
