I'm currently doing a deployment of WSUS on the following lab network.

The WSUS server is 2k3 Enterprise Edition. The DC is 2k3 Standard Edition. These are both fresh installs with no Service Packs installed. There is a client running XP Pro SP 1.

When trying to deploy the .msi containing Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update to the client using a Group Policy assignment, the update failed everytime. I'm told it has to do with the SP 1 installation on the client. since I don't have any previous version of XP Pro, I'll have to live with just reading about it instead of actually doing it. After all, it is just a lab.

Two questions: Is this the real problem as to why the installation failed?

And if so, what if a company is a real world scenario was in the situation I'm in but had 100 clients to update? Would he have to manually update all the clients to SP 2 in order to have WSUS on the machines? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of WSUS in the first place?

    Thanks in advance.:)

    Happy Holidays to all.

    Can you describe the error?
Did you have the right configurations on the clients? The policy is well applied on the OU or Domain or site?
