    Hello:
I have installed wired networks, but I am new to the wireless structure. Will any pci wireless network card work with any wireless router? I want to connect 2 computers in a home via a wireless router and pci wireless cards. Also I am not sure what to get for a router, I have seen 11, 54, 108 mbps ratings, whats most commonly used for home networks?
    Thanks, Tom

I recently purchased two wireless PCI adapters that I was quite surprised with.... Microsoft MN-730 802.11g/WI-FI.....System requirements- Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP....IE 5.0 or later...40MB available space. My initial purchase was Netgear, which I later realized needed at least a P3. Exchanged for a Belkin that wouldn't get recognized and finally the MN-730, which installed without a hitch. The Microsoft Broadband Networking setup cd had me connected to my network within minutes with 100% signal strength to Netgear 802.11b router on the main floor, this PC being upstairs, through the ceiling and two walls on the opposite side of the house. I purchased a second card and put into an ME machine with clean install to gain internet access for updates. By the time the setup had finished, IE had been updated as well as a few other things. HUH? That's right, all necessary system updates were included in the setup, and once again I had straight-away connection to my network. I get downloads on both of these wireless machines at up to 450Kbps, which is as good as my hardwired machine gets. I guess what I'm getting at is a recommendation to try these cards. :) I am very satisfied with them.

If you are going to only have about 1 wireless computer (like a laptop) and a few wired computers than I recommend the one I am using, Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router (model WRT54G). Ever since I got it (about 4 months) I have had no problems from it.

    Good luck,

    Jason

May have been a bad assumption on my part but I took the above to indicate that Tom was in the business somehow.

If so, there is quite a bit a wired guy needs to learn. If not (and just setting up at home) then it would be overkill.
