WinXP won't install

May we have some more details please....

I understand you have built a PC and you are trying to install XP and the install fails with the pci.sys error - is that correct?

Which version of XP are you trying to install XP SP1 or XP SP2, either Home or Pro?

Which motherboard are you using? - full make and model please.

What sort of graphics card have you installed - is it an AGP card or a PCIe (PCI Express)? If you don't know the motherboard manual will tell you if it supports PCIe.

AFAIK you need Windows XP SP2 to support a PCI-Express graphics card.

If you are using only a PCI-Express graphics card the only choice is to boot from the complete edition of Windows XP SP2.

If you are trying to install Windows XP or Windows XP SP1 you will need to disable PCI-Express in BIOS before starting the installation. Under these circumstance you will need a PCI graphics card to enable you to see the screen during the installation process Then, upgrade XP to SP2. After upgrading is successfully completed, you can enable PCI-Express in the BIOS and use a PCI-Express graphics card.
