I work in a computer lab on a college campus, and we just installed WinXP on a few of our machines. However, on the new XP machines, the desktop shortcuts do not work. No matter which way we try to install them, when we click on them they do not connect, and ask us to browse for the drive or program. It does not even connect to the regular drives (such as A, C, and D), which is normally automatic. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know asap.

Do the shortcuts appear to point to the proper .exe file to launch the application?

Do any desktop icons work - My Computer or any similar?

Was this from the very beginning? If so, could you possibly have installed using media infected with the Navidad virus?

If not, are there any possibly related events in the event logs?

Are you on a domain or workgroup? And what XP version, home or pro?

Are any of your other PCs running a NT OS (NT4/2K)?
