Windows XP Popups

    Hello
    I have Windows XP Home Edition,I did A restore on my computer and now I get Popups in a grey screen saying "Your PC is wide open to the internet" others says how to make money etc etccc advertiseing **** I beleive it is.
    Can someone tell me how to turn this off these are not POP ups from going to internet sites Not sure how I got rid of it before Restore any Ideas how to turn this off I think its a microsoft thing

    The first link you gave me is what comes up now I do have a firewall norton firewall2003 and its still coming up

    It sounds like you're getting ads through an exploit of XP's Messenger Service, which has NOTHING to do with MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger.

    Since that service is really only of benefit in a corporate environment, just turn it off: Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services>Messenger service. Double click on it and choose "Disable" from the drop-down list next to "Startup Type." In addition, to turn it off immediately without having to reboot for the change to take effect, also click on the Stop button, then on OK to save the changes.
