Hello, I was thinking of installing windows XP 64 bit version as I just updated my computer with a 64bit capable processor. Before I do this does anybody know of any known problems that this may cause?

I don't know any first-hand about it but from reading, the version seems to be pretty stable and certainly will be faster. Just throw plenty of memory at it.

Hi Max, long time no see :D

As for memory, according to Microsoft 256 MB should do it....

Now we all know MS, so I wouldn't try it with less then 512 MB.

You can even sign up to get Windows XP 64-bit for a free 365 day trial, and download it from MS (450 MB).

From what else I know is that there is only limited support for drivers at this time, so you could have a hard time finding the correct drivers.

If you think you will improve gaming performance: think again!

According to this Anandtech article, gaming performance took a hit (decrease) of 20% on average...

    Have fun!

One thing I do know about the 64 bit: most conventional software is NOT ready for it. Might want to consider dual booting while you're test driving.

    Isn't XP-64 backward compatible with 32-bit programs?

    ShadowHawk,
According to MS, the 64 is backwards compatible with 32 bit software. Practical experience, no. Adobe Acrobat 6 comes to mind, and I know there are several others. There are more serious limitations, however, documented here, like no system restore option, less choices for digital media, and laptop hassles. The 64 is not ready to be the standard, despite the speed.
