I am a beginner with Windows Vista Home Basic. Want to voice record to cd via microphone (which is correctly plugged in to computer). When clicking on to "voice recorder" in programmes a small box appears which will start or stop recorder but there is no instruction on how to direct a recording to cd or anywhere else. Help.

Hello achilles3 and welcome to the Board,

When you stop the recorder, it asks for a file name. In Home Basic, this file will have a .wav extension. It also asks where (browse). Give it a name and note where and in what folder you saved it to. The default is in the Documents directory where you make a new folder for your recordings, or not.

The easiest (the most straightforward) way to copy that to a CD is to call up Windows DVD Maker in All Programs. In the dialog box, click add items > Computer and the name of the saved audio file from the Recorder.

BTW, Windows Vista Voicemail is a specific application for reading/hearing telephone voice mail: http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDetail.aspx?li=38ae806f-51b7-49a4-b6c7-e36191163c89&l=1
