Is there any way to update Windows XP without going online? For example, can a person download all XP updates since SP2, burn them to a CD, then somehow direct Windows Update to browse the CD (or the files copied from CD to the HD) for necessary updates, rather than go online?

I know that you can download the updates, but then what do you do with them?

I would think this would be handy for someone who is on dial up or who wants to get their system secure before going online.

Yes, but the updates download as an executable file - .exe and, having saved them to disk or burned to CD/DVD just double click on the file to run.

Start > Windows Update > Use Administrator Options > Windows Update Catalogue and follow the prompts.

That route may not show all the critical updates - for a full list go here .....

SP2 can be downloaded from here ....
