For Windows ME the update page launches but when asked to "scan for updates" nothing happens. Any ideas?

    Hello lonnyjones1,

"be sure to turn off any and all av probrams and internet security
third party stuff ---any firewalls too ..... "

None of this is necessary. The danger is that you forget to turn them back on.

I'm running ZAP on ME and double Firewalls on XP. Never had a problem. Needless to say, never shut AVes off.

The only requirement that MS has is that activeX be allowed for the site. Its through activeX that MS diddles your system.

on the security tab highlight the green & blue globe
and click on the custom level tab--there are five active x controls -enable all five for now--be sure to go back later and re-disable some or use the default level button
    1rst enable
    2nd disable
    3rd disable
    4th enable
    5th enable

    Hello lonnyjones1,

Your points taken on the non-security software, especially the download accelerators, which tend to cause problems on any site. My original point was and still is, unless there is a specific problem with any security setting or software, tuning them off as a general procedure is a bad idea. Lots of people get into trouble that way thinking they must do this.

As for activX, I set them for prompt always. This will give you the option of allowing a site to access your activex components. You will have to make the decision to allow it or not. Most sites can be denied permission because what they want to activate are usually ads and animation, both take up time and bandwith. If something doesn't work w/o activex, you always have the option to allow it.

    Regards - Charles
